In a striking display of civic engagement, a significant protest against the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took place on Friday afternoon in the vibrant East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Beginning their demonstration at 2 p.m. from the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, the group of demonstrators made their way to a nearby Target store, where they staged an in-store protest alongside an impactful sidewalk demonstration.
Target, a retail giant headquartered in Minnesota, has recently faced criticism from activists for its alleged cooperation with ICE. Protesters claim that the corporation has permitted ICE agents to utilize their parking facilities for operations, including staging activities and accessing restrooms.
Chanting the powerful slogan "ICE out for good," the protesters expressed their discontent with Target's practices. In a statement from the rally, they emphasized, "Target, whose corporate headquarters are in Minneapolis, has been collaborating with ICE, allowing ICE to stage on their properties and to operate within their stores."
As the demonstration unfolded, it became evident that interest was high, with over 200 individuals having registered for the event, although estimates suggested that the actual crowd size may have exceeded those numbers.
