The Dallas Stars snapped their six-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. The Stars' Casey DeSmith made 23 saves, while Radek Faksa scored a shorthanded goal, and the team bounced back from a 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes the day before. Faksa's goal came just over three minutes into the game, with Ilya Lyubushkin in the penalty box for holding. Thomas Harley set up Sam Steel's net-front tap-in early in the second period, and Wyatt Johnston's 24th goal of the season with 6:29 left in regulation sealed the win. Roope Hintz added an empty-netter with 18.6 seconds remaining. Alex Ovechkin, playing at age 40, scored his 915th career goal, breaking an NHL record, with 2:19 left and Thompson pulled for an extra attacker. The Capitals, who were without injured forwards Tom Wilson and Aliaksei Protas, lost three of four and six of their past nine games. The Stars' next game is a four-game Western swing, starting with a visit to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, followed by three stops in California and a final game in Utah. The Capitals will play the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.
